During our Sunday gathering this morning we are going to encourage people to find a time this week to participate in a Spring prayer focus by praying in a garden. You can do this alone, or grab your family and do it together.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (1 Peter 1:3, ESV)
Saying your prayers in a new location can be a great way to revitalize your practice and get a new perspective on life. Sometime this week, find either a vegetable or flower garden and spend a few minutes praying. You could go into your own garden, a public park, or a local community garden and find a spot to connect with God. Pick a spot that is comfortable where you can have a little quiet. As you pray, slowly breathe in and out. Savor the scent of life around you—from the nourishing soil to the fragrance of the flowers. Remember that everything around you was made by God and for our joy. Spend time giving thanks for the green in the trees, the flowers in the garden, and the food that will grow. Truly be thankful for God’s creation. Also focus on how growing, budding, and even soon to grow plants are a reminder of new beginnings, and the wonderful truth that God brings new life and fresh starts to our lives. Peter reminded us that we are born again to a living hope because of the resurrection. New life coming out of the soil and on the trees is a reminder of the new life we have because of Jesus. So remember this and give thanks for this in your time of prayer.
