Suggested Resources for Evangelical Political Engagement

Our Top 10 List sermon a couple weeks ago sought to answer the question, How should we approach US politics and the role of Evangelical Christians? During the sermon and subsequent panel we spoke of a few suggested resources on the topic. Wanted to share these books, podcasts, and other resources that can help us be informed, engaged, and balanced. Beginning with a few books that speak in helpful ways into the topic. Good stuff here, so check these out.

Compassion & Conviction: The AND Campaign’s Guide to Civic Engagement by Justin Gibony, Michael Wear, and Chris Butler – Christians are to stand for justice and righteousness, with compassion and conviction. This book from the AND Campaign is a call to be faithful to both as we engage politics but also advocate in culture.

Not In it To Win It: Why Choosing Sides Sidelines the Church by Andy Stanley – A reminder about our clear and most important with a warning about how choosing sides actually harms our witness. Stanley reminds us that our Savior lost, and that our political witness needs to follow His lead.

How the Nations Rage: Rethinking Faith and Politics in a Divided Age by Jonathan Leeman – Leeman is with 9 Marks Ministry and has written a very good book that explores both the theology of political involvement as well as giving practical paths we can walk to honor Jesus.

Next Step Disciple: Five Steps to Voting as a Christian – Good article with ways to think about and pray over voting.
