Christmas Morning Family Worship – Jesus Came So That….

This is a short family worship experience to be done with your family on Christmas morning, a time of worship and thinking on the reason for the day you celebrate. Our series for the Advent Season has been asking about the reason and purpose for Christmas. Why do we have this story, why a virgin birth, a humble birth, a manger-throne. Why shepherds, wise men, and angels? For this series we have been finding our answers to this question from Jesus Himself. Multiple times during His ministry Jesus made statements that explained the purpose for His coming. As a family, on Christmas morning, you will sing a few songs, watch (or read) the Christmas story, and then hear Jesus answer the question as to why He came. The only things you will need are a few Bibles, and a device or TV for the worship experience.

Christmas Morning Family Worship 2019

Opening song – Joy to the World

Watch the Christmas story from the Jesus Storybook Bible together, or read Matthew 1:18-25. If you watch the video, look up and read Matthew 1:20-21 together.

Ask your family this question – Why was Jesus born? Why did He come into the world? Share answers together.

Song – O Come All Ye Faithful

Have different members of your family look up the following verses. Explain that in each of these passages Jesus explains the purpose and meaning for his coming. Tell your family that after each passage you will think about it together, and complete this statement from each text.
*Jesus came, so that _______________________________________________________.
Then talk about what this means for us and why the celebration of Christmas reminds us of all that Jesus came to do.

John 12:27-28
*Jesus came, so that _______________________________________________________.

Matthew 5:17-18
*Jesus came, so that _______________________________________________________.

Song – O Holy Night

Close with this prayer from The Valley of Vision

O source of all good,
What shall I render to you for the gift of gifts,
your own dear Son?

Herein is wonder of wonders:
he came below to raise me above,
was born like me that I might become like him.

Herein is love;
when I cannot rise to him he draws near on wings of grace,
to raise me to himself.

Herein is power;
when Deity and humanity were infinitely apart,
he united them in indissoluble unity,
the uncreate and the created.

Herein is wisdom;
when I was undone, with no will to return to him,
and no intellect to devise recovery,
he came, God-incarnate, to save me to the uttermost,
as man to die my death,
to shed satisfying blood on my behalf,
to work out a perfect righteousness for me!

O God, take me in spirit to the watchful shepherds,
and enlarge my mind!

Let me hear good tidings of great joy,
and hearing, believe, rejoice, praise, adore,
my conscience bathed in an ocean of repose,
my eyes uplifted to a reconciled Father!

Place me with ox, donkey, camel, goat,
to look with them upon my Redeemer’s face,
and in him account myself delivered from sin!

Let me with Simeon clasp the newborn child to my heart,
embrace him with undying faith,
exulting that he is mine and I am his!

In him you have given me so much that heaven can give no more.
