Resources for Suffering

Sermon this past Sunday looked at our response to tragedy and suffering.  Here are some recommended resources if you or someone you know is going through a dark period of life.

Glorious Ruin: How Suffering Sets us Free by Tullian Tchividjian – I highly recommend this book, really a good read for anyone, because we all will suffer.  Terrific in Gospel application in suffering by the grandson of Billy Graham.

Walking with God through Pain and Suffering by Tim Keller – Ok, so this book is n0t out, but it will be good and Gospel centered.

How Long, O Lord by D. A. Carson – A very good book, but more theological as it delves into the deeper reasons and purposes for pain and suffering.

Also want to recommend two C. S. Lewis books.  The Problem of Pain seeks to answer the philosophical and theological questions about pain and suffering. A Grief Observed was written out of his own personal tragedy of losing his wife.  Read together, they make a great balanced approach dealing with both the head questions and heart struggles.

Where is God when it Hurts by Philip Yancey

This blog by Josh McDowell gives a good, brief answer to the reason for suffering.
