Been reading the life of David in 1 Samuel during my time in the Word, and read 1 Samuel 23 this morning. This chapter gives us a list of the names and exploits of David’s mighty men, a group of 30 men who were incredibly loyal to David and skilled as warriors. This chapter is part of a section of 1 Samuel that gives an overview of David’s life and rule as king, and in this chapter we are reminded that while God anointed David and called him to be king, in a real way, this does not happen without these 30 men.
Now, in no way do I see myself as the king of Genesis, Jesus is. But this chapter challenged me this morning to realize that church is such a huge team effort, and we have a band of mighty men, men who I would die for and with whom I find it an honor to do the battle of leading the church and living for our true King. They are men of Godly character, men who have fought for the glory of God and the good of His people in the church. So I thought it would be appropriate to take a moment and give thanks for these men, their love for Jesus, their leadership in the church, and their brotherhood. Take a moment to give thanks for these men and pray for them. And if you worship elsewhere, pray for the mighty men of your church.
