This year Christmas is on a Sunday. That created a little tension, since generally our church meets on Sunday. As we considered our options, we wanted to do what was best for families. We would like to encourage your family to join in our church’s worship on Christmas morning. We will gather at 10 AM (or whatever time works for you), after presents are opened and kids have burned off the morning energy with their new toys. But we want to encourage you to spend a few minutes thanking Jesus and looking to Him. Click on the document above to get the worship. As part of your worship, we have included some Christmas carols to be sung. Below we have links to videos on Youtube that have fairly common and easy to sing Christmas carol music with the lyrics on the screen. You will need to either gather around your computer, of if you can, hook the computer up to your TV so it can be seen by everyone. We also have a family activity, a family prayer time, and some Scripture, and some thoughts to consider as a family. The one thing you will need to do in advance is wrap an empty box, something big enough to put some tags on. You will also need to make copies of the gift card and cut them, on colored or construction paper if that is possible. Have this ready before you begin your worship time. All these are designed to have you worship Jesus, the newborn King. God bless, and have a merry Christmas!

This past Sunday the sermon from Mark 10 dealt with the topic of Marriage and Divorce. We know that this topic will raise a lot of questions, and there is not enough time in a sermon to deal with all of these. So the Elders have composed a position paper and published it here to explain our understanding of Scripture on the topic and to give an explanation on the guiding principles that will lead us as we help people wrestle with difficulties.

During May we as a church are going to emphasize prayer. We have a sermon series looking at various aspects of prayer, and we are encouraging our people to participate in prayer on many different levels. One of the ways we are doing that is through a prayer Calendar and Journal we have published. You can pick up a hard copy at Genesis or download it below. Each day during May has an entry that includes a Psalm to read and pray through, thoughts on prayer following the “PRAY” acrostic

P = Praise, prayers that thank and worship Jesus

R = Repent, confessing our sin and need for grace

A = Ask, petitions made to God

Y = Yield, submitting ourselves in prayer to the purpose and plan of God.

So each day the journal will lead you through each of these aspects of prayer, and will also give you other prayer needs and requests you can remember.

So, let me encourage you to start using this today, and pray with us for the next month. And we will see the great things God will do as we seek Him together as a church family.

Hello everyone! My name is Kelsey Guemmer and we have just finished day three! We began with going to a water park for some r&r, which was much needed. On the way we got lost a little and had a train of cars going thru a neighborhood where Chris decided to get out and lay out in someones yard cause she was ready to relax. It was hilarious!! But the water park was awesome just to fellowship with one another and to get some time away. The park was great and even let us all eat for half off of everything, it was really cool! Once we got back, we were a little rushed to get everything ready for Kids Club. There were many kids already there waiting to get started. It’s amazing how many kids have been coming, today we had a little over 110 I believe. Kids Club today for me went more smoothly than yesterday, but that was just me. We all had our ups and downs of the day but I think it was very successful. Lots of good conversations happened and I can defiantly feel God moving thru these kids. This is my first mission trip and it has been an amazing experience. I have personally been very humbled and loved every second of it, even the bad. The fellowship we have had with each other and with the kids of this area has just excited me. I am excited to see what God has in store for us the rest of this week. We can always use as many prayers as possible. They have been working so far but more are needed for these kids, this community, and for Shining Light! Thank you everyone!!!

On Sunday we looked at how Nehemiah responded to the news that the walls of Jerusalem were in rubble and the gates had been burned. When Nehemiah heard that Jerusalem was a mess, his response was to weep, mourn, fast, and pray for the next four months. I have a difficult time praying for our city for more than four minutes. But Nehemiah’s prayer was the outgrowth of the reality that God was doing something significant in his heart, that God was calling Nehemiah to join Him in his mission and work.

It got me to thinking about our city, and the desire we have to be a city within the city, to live as the people of God in Eureka. What if God gave us a heart for our city like Nehemiah’s for Jerusalem. So I issued a challenge, the call for us to fast and pray for our city for the duration of this series on Nehemiah. Will you join me?! My idea is that we can fast for one meal a week, and spend that time praying, seeking the face of God, and crying out for our neighbors and for the city. Ive attached a form that uses the prayer in Nehemiah 1:5-11 as a model for us to follow. If you are going to join the effort, post a reply on the blog. How encouraging it would be to have a bunch of us praying for Eureka and for Genesis every week.
